Cleveland Modular was selected by Taylor Woodrow, the main contractor for National Grid, to deliver a 56-bay single-storey modular building as part of a significant infrastructure upgrade at Harker Substation.

This two-phase project, with Phase 1 spanning two and a half years with an additional two years to follow, aims to replace a 75-year-old substation with a modern, efficient, and less polluting facility to meet future energy demands.

Taylor Woodrow, a division of VINCI, required a modular solution to accommodate approximately 250 operatives and office staff with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. For the large facility, Cleveland Modular provided the following:

  • Open plan office with desks, chairs, storage cabinets and coat stands
  • Two canteens with kitchen facilities and white goods
  • Spacious reception area
  • Meeting rooms
  • Drying/changing rooms
  • Toilet facilities

To enhance safety and improve comfort for staff, Cleveland Modular supplied multiple ancillary items as part of the ‘Boost Your Space’ solution:

  • Emergency lighting
  • Carpet tiles throughout office area
  • Air conditioning
  • Dehumidifiers to drying rooms

My previous excellent working relationship with Paul Bowen (National Account Manager) along with a competitive price and a sustainable fleet solidified our decision to work with Cleveland Modular.

From the tender enquiry and layout drawing agreement to quotation and delivery, the entire process has been great.

Everyone on site is happy with the final product. We’re delighted with the clean, modern and energy efficient complex.

Mike Dillon, Portable Accommodation Manager at VINCI

The decision to partner with Cleveland Modular was influenced by numerous factors, including a prior working relationship, competitive pricing, and the assurance of a modern, energy-efficient, and sustainable modular fleet.

As part of the collaboration, Cleveland Modular welcomed Taylor Woodrow’s Project Director to the local depot, a gesture that strengthened the partnership and facilitated the approval of the order.

The final product met and exceeded expectations, providing a clean and contemporary complex that was well-received by on-site staff, and has an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating of A.

The ability to provide a tailored, sustainable modular solution positions Cleveland Modular as a valuable partner for Taylor Woodrow and National Grid.
